Luanda, August 8, 2023 – During World Breastfeeding Week, the brand Pura reaffirms its support for Lucrécia Paim Maternity Hospital with a donation of 9,000 bottles of Pura water. The brand has maintained a partnership with this important health institution in Luanda since 2020, benefiting over 2,000 patients and the medical staff who visit the hospital daily.
The World Breastfeeding Week, running since August 1 at Lucrécia Paim Maternity, is a special occasion to raise awareness among Angolan mothers about the importance of hydration for breastfeeding, which is crucial for the health of their babies, especially in the first six months of life.
To highlight this important week, Pura and Refriango have increased their donation of water bottles, contributing an additional 9,000 half-liter bottles, in addition to the 4,500 liters of water they provide monthly to the maternity ward, the emergency room, and the human milk bank as part of an agreement signed in 2020. In addition to water supply, this protocol also includes the training and education of the public on the importance of hydration for health and well-being, as well as the installation of mosquito nets for newborn cribs.
David Moisés, Category Manager – Juices, Nectars, and Water, states:
"Lucrécia Paim Maternity Hospital, as a leading institution for maternal and infant health in Luanda, is a priority for Pura water. Our high quality standards, ensured by a rigorous control process with over 10,000 monthly tests, make our brand the number one choice for the health of Angolans. We help this hospital meet its need for quality water, and during World Breastfeeding Week, we want to reinforce the message of the importance of hydration so mothers can produce breast milk. The better hydrated they are, the better their breastfeeding will be."
Founded in 2019, the Human Milk Bank at Lucrécia Paim Maternity is a key part of the Angolan government's awareness campaigns to increase breastfeeding rates for babies up to two years old, goals which Pura and Refriango actively support.
This donation from Pura comes at a time when the World Health Organization (WHO) has set the goal of increasing breastfeeding rates by 2025 as a key part of its global nutrition goals.
